COLLAGEN

What is Collagen?

Collagen is the main structure protein in the complexity of the connective tissues  - it makes up of 25-30 %  of the whole body protein.

It plays an essential role in the structure and function of the skin, cartilage, bones and connective tissue.

As you age the natural process of collagen reduces and it becomes fragmented and more loosely distributed - this causes dry and saggy skin with wrinkles.

Here are few examples of collagen-rich foods:

  • bones, skin, and ligaments of animals, such as chicken skin and pig knuckle

  • certain types of seafood, such as fish skin and jellyfish

  • products made from animal parts such as bones and ligaments, including bone broth

Advise to take Vitamin A & C -    also Collagen Supplements

A number of studies have shown that taking collagen supplements may improve skin hydration and elasticity and reduce the appearance of wrinkles

Other causes of reduced collagen:

 -  UV exposure

 - Pollution

- Poordiet

- Medical treatment ie chemotherapy/radiotherapy

- Tobacco usage

- Type 2 diabetes
